Important Kindergarten Announcement! Thank you for your patience with the process of your student starting Kindergarten this year. COVID-19 as jaded it so we have had to modify the process of Kindergarten this school year. Due to our not having Kindergarten round up in the spring. The opportunity for the teachers to spend a short time with the future students is very important for us when placing students into classrooms. This year we will not have kindergarten students start school until Monday, August 17th. On Thursday, August 13 and Friday, August 14th we will be scheduling short, small group visits for you and your student to meet the teachers. This will allow us to assign students to classrooms for the start of Monday. You may schedule your day and time for the visit by typing the link below into your internet browser, visiting the Northside Web page or by calling the school office starting August 3rd from 8 to 3. Thank you for your patients and support as we work to reopen school safely. Web link to schedule visit: https://bit.ly/3hAgXNH

Good afternoon Pioneers. Please access the Nebraska City public schools website for additional information regarding the educational plan for 2020-2021 school year. This year will be challenging for everyone. Schedules and routines may be hard to establish. Plans can change daily as we are dealing with a fluid situation. The best place to get information is on the district webpage under COVID 19 resources. Please note the 4 tiers that we may be operating under, green, yellow, orange, and red. Each tier will have measures to increase social distancing. We will be communicating with the southeast regional health department to help determine which tier we are operating in. Today at about 1:20pm, fire alarms triggered at Northside. The fire department responded. There was NO flames, fire, or heavy smoke. There was a smell of hot plastic and a haze in the air. Students were quickly and safely moved to gathering areas outside the school. Students were NOT in danger and were safe at all times. Due to the length of time it took to locate the source of the unknown problem, students were moved to the Central Office for access to restrooms and for parent pick-up. Northside staff handled this unexpected problem in exemplary fashion. The remaining students and staff returned to Northside at 2:57 after the all clear was given. The cause of the problem was found to be a shorted control board located in the air handling unit in the ceiling in the 2nd grade wing. The control board will be repaired and Northside will be ready for students tomorrow morning. Buses will run as normal this afternoon and clubs will be available for any remaining students at Northside. Should you have any questions, please contact me or Brent Gaswick.

This message is to inform you of a fire alarm event today at Northside. At approximately 10:40 this morning the fire alarm activated at Northside, as standard practice students evacuated the building as quickly as possible. This resulted in the students being outside for approximately 5 mins before the cause of the alarm was identified and it was determined safe for the students to return to class. The alarm was not a practice drill but the result of dust entering our ductwork from construction on the exterior of the building. Had this event resulted in the students needing to be out of the building for an extended time we would have relocated the students to NCPS central office until it was determined safe for them to return to Northside.
Reminder: Friday there will not be after school clubs. All students need to be picked up at 3:20.
