Mariachi Zapata, an Omaha-based mariachi group, has been delighting audiences since 1989. The group features a wide range of traditional instrumentation and focuses on presenting high quality performances of this 500-year-old music tradition, while keeping Mexican and Chicano culture alive. In addition to their entertaining performances, the group is committed to educational outreach work and connecting with students using their original curriculum on instrumental instruction, music appreciation, and history. Mariachi Zapata has been nominated for four Omaha Entertainment and Arts Awards, winning Best World Music in 2018.   The Lied Center is grateful to The Richard P Kimmel and Laurine Kimmel Charitable Foundation, the Nebraska Arts Council/Nebraska Cultural Endowment, and Friends of Lied for their support of the Arts Across Nebraska Program.
